Our Club

Welcome to Samford Stags

Our club is more than just a place to play rugby; it's a community where players of all ages and skill levels come together to build resilience, confidence, and lasting friendships. We emphasise the importance of discipline, coordination and mental toughness, ensuring that every member grows both on and off the field. We pride ourselves on a family-friendly atmosphere, and actively adhering to the Codes of Conduct laid down by the Queensland Rugby League for players, parents and supporters. Since our formation in 1970, we have been dedicated to fostering physical fitness, teamwork and a love for rugby league in the picturesque township of Samford, Queensland.
At the Samford Stags, we take pride in our rich history of success, from winning multiple President's Cups and Premierships to nurturing young talent through our junior programs. Our facilities have evolved over the years thanks to the dedication of our passionate players, volunteers, and generous supporters.
Whether you're a seasoned player, a budding junior or an enthusiastic supporter, you'll find a welcoming and supportive environment at our club. We believe in the power of sport to bring people together, promote a healthy lifestyle and create unforgettable experiences.

Our Mission

At Samford Stags Rugby League Club, our mission is to foster a passion for rugby league within our community by promoting physical fitness, teamwork and personal growth. We are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment where players of all ages and skill levels can thrive. Through dedication to excellence both on and off the field, we aim to build a legacy of strength, unity, and community spirit.
Our History

The Samford Stags Rugby League Club, officially known as the Samford and District RLFC, was formed in February 1970 after a lively discussion at the Golden Valley Hotel. A group of passionate lads wanted to play in Brisbane’s Metropolitan Competition, commonly known as the Old Pub League. Initially called the Golden Valley Hotel Club, they entered the Grade C competition in their first year. By 1971, the club rebranded as Samford and adopted the national colours of the Kangaroos for their playing strip. Early matches were played on what is now Alan Cash Oval, a field generously donated by the Cash family. The clubs beginnings were humble, with saplings serving as goalposts and makeshift change rooms under the Farmers Hall.
In the early years, post-game celebrations were held at the Golden Valley Hotel, now The Samford Hotel, where victories and losses were equally celebrated long into the night. The first clubhouse, built by enthusiastic players and volunteers, started as a simple structure with just walls, toilets, a bar, and a fireplace. Over time, the Stags grew in both facilities and achievements, winning numerous Presidents Cups and Premierships. In 1994, the club expanded to include junior teams, with their first major junior successes coming in 2004 and 2006. The club introduced a league tots program in 2017 for children aged 3-5, ensuring the Stags' legacy continues with the youngest members of the community.
